Graduate Astronomy Courses
Here is a sample (not exhaustive!) of the courses you can take at GSU during your Astronomy PhD.
Qualification exams
Students must pass two qualifier exams “quals”
- the first astronomy general examination must be taken within a year of entering the program. This is administered as a written examination covering the fundamentals of astronomy.
-
the second general examination must be taken after passing the first one and successfully completing at least twelve hours of 8000-level astronomy courses. This is administered as a written and oral examination. Students must successfully make an oral presentation and discussion of their proposed dissertation research by the end of the third year after admission to the program.
