Employment Opportunities
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University (GSU) invites applications from Experimental Physicists for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2025. Of particular interest are experimentalists with expertise in condensed matter physics/materials science or biophysics (biphotonics/bio-spectroscopy or neurophysics).
Substantial startup funds are available for the successful candidate. GSU Physics, along with other core facilities within the college, hosts considerable experimental infrastructure for biophysics and condensed matter physics research, including biological sample preparation, advanced vibrational spectroscopy and spectral imaging, UV to far-infrared optoelectronics, and nanoscience facilities for the fabrication and study of layered 2D materials and semiconductors, including millikelvin temperature and high magnetic fields for studies of nanoscale specimens.
Opportunities for collaboration with faculty in the Chemistry and/or Biology departments at GSU also exist and are welcomed and encouraged. In addition, the local Atlanta area offers opportunities for scientific collaboration at neighboring institutions including Georgia Institute of Technology, Clark Atlanta University, Emory University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, and the University of Georgia.
This is a standard 40-40-20 position, with 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service.
