On Saturday, March 25th, several graduate students and faculty participated in the Atlanta Science Festival Expo. The department hosted a booth called “From Cosmic Rays to Food: How Does Nuclear Physics Affect My Life?” where dozens of families learned about space weather, cosmic rays, and the various ways in which ionizing radiation is present in our everyday life. Families got to observe a cosmic ray detector in action, and see a Geiger counter detect radiation coming from a banana.
